One of the inescapable signs of growing old is white hair. Everyone remembers their first strand. Scientifically, your hair grows through a natural cycle of dying and then being regenerated. As the hair follicles age, they produce less colour. Although your genetics determine the actual start of greying, these days many people face the issue of grey hair at a very early age. While some celebrate grey hair as a sign of maturity and wisdom, many feel that they look older once their hair starts turning white. Here are some super easy natural hair treatments to mitigate white hair.
Amla powder or amla oil
Take 3 or 4 dried Indian gooseberries (amla) and 1 cup coconut oil. Boil the berries with coconut oil to prepare an oil solution. Store this oil in a jar and take about two tablespoons for each use. Massage the two tablespoons of oil into your scalp and work it through the length of your hair. After massaging for about 15 minutes, leave the oil on for an additional 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can leave the oil overnight. In the morning, wash off with a mild sulphate-free shampoo and you may finish with conditioner. You can practice this 2 or 4 times a week to reduce white hair.
Why does this work?
Amla has a number of health benefits out of which one is the reduction of white hair. It works as a hair tonic and helps give your dark hair a lustrous shine. Amla is a rich source of vitamin C, which is an anti-oxidant. Anti-oxidants basically have anti-aging properties and revitalizes the pigment in your hair follicles. Alternatively, you can also consume amla powder with water every night before you sleep. Reportedly, you will see positive results in less than a month.
Curry leaves
Take a handful of curry leaves and 3 tablespoons coconut oil. Boil the curry leaves with coconut oil to prepare an oil solution. Set the oil aside to cool. Once it has cooled, strain the oil and massage it into your scalp and apply it through the length of your hair. After massaging for about 15 minutes, leave the oil on for an additional 30 minutes or overnight if you want. Same, wash off with a mild sulphate-free shampoo and use conditioner if it suits you.
Why does this work?
Curry leaves are said to restore the melanin pigment in your hair follicles. It is also a rich source of vitamin B. Vitamin B is vital for hair growth and known as the pigmentation vitamin. They also contain amino acids and antioxidants which strengthen the hair follicles and moisturize the scalp.
