Tips on making ripped jeans at home
Choosing the denims
Picking up which denim to rip is very important as every pair of denim jeans are different. Girls may find it difficult to choose which jeans to rip high waist or mid-waist. Choosing the right colour is also important. Although, if this is the first time a person is ripping their jeans then they must prefer taking some rounds with old or unwanted denim jeans.
Gather the tools required
Before ripping jeans, one must know that they have to distress them first so that the jeans look authentically ripped. For this, a person has to bring some sandpaper or a paint-removing block, steel wool, and a pumice stone. Find small scissors, a knife, or a box cutter. Also, get some pieces of cardboard or a small wooden block to keep inside the leg portion of the jean.
Marking the areas
Marking the jeans is important because it will help in doing the job with precision. Use a pen, chalk or a safety-pin to denote exactly where to rip and distress the area. For more precision, use a ruler.
Start Distressing
Take the sandpaper and start rubbing the marked area until the denim starts to really thin out and look worn. It may take time as per the thickness of the jeans. Do not forget to make sure that the area has thinned properly.
Rip It
After the denim jeans are adequately distressed, take the scissors or knife and use the edge and start horizontally scraping the marked area. Scrape enough that the white threads beneath the denim’s surface are visible, only if a person does not want holes. Use a tweezer and fray the threads after distressing is done. Cut the distressed areas with a knife or scissors if the skin is something a person wants to be seen.
