What is Chhath Puja?

Chhath Puja is a four-day annual festival during which Hindu devotees honour the Sun God, known as Surya or Surya Bhagavan. The festival is also referred to by several other names, including Surya Shashti, Chhath, Chhathi, Chhath Parv, Dala Puja, Pratihar, Dala Chhath, and Chhath Puja.

The observance spans four days and involves fasting, particularly by women, to pray for the well-being of their sons and to bring peace and happiness to the family.

This festival is celebrated with great fervor, especially in the state of Bihar and in the neighboring country of Nepal.

Chhath Puja Date: Is it on November 6 or 7?

Chhath Puja is observed on different dates each year, as it follows the Hindu lunar calendar. One easy way to know when Chhath Puja will take place is that it always falls six days after Diwali . This year, Chhath Puja 2024 will be celebrated on November 7.

Here are the dates and auspicious times for each day, as per Drik Panchang.

Chhath Puja Day 1: Nahay Khay falls on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The time starts at 6:36 am and ends at 5:33 pm.

Chhath Puja Day 2: Lohanda and Kharna falls on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. From sunrise till evening, the auspicious time starts at 6:37 am and ends at 5:32 pm.

Chhath Puja Day 3: Chhath Puja, Sandhya Arghya will be observed on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The shubh muhurat begins at 6:38 am and ends at 5:32 pm.

Chhath Puja Day 4: Usha Arghya, Parana Day falls on Friday, November 8, 2024. The auspicious time kicks off at 6:38 am and ends at 5:31 pm.
