Dinner Etiquettes: Fine dining etiquette to follow at a restaurant
Dinner Etiquettes: Fine dining etiquettes go far beyond what kind of knife to use. Here are important rules that you must follow while dining at a restaurant.
Whether you are at a fancy restaurant or an eatery or even at home, dining etiquette is a must. Dining etiquette goes beyond table manners. Here's what to know about etiquette rules that you must follow at any restaurant.
Avoid snapping
Don't snap at anyone when you want to call the restaurant servers. Even clicking your fingers to draw waiter's attention is not just bad dinner etiquette but also bad manners in general. Practice patience, the server will come to your table. If not, call them with decency.
Table manners and ordering food
This is one of the most important dinner etiquettes to follow. If you want to try a new dish, ask details about it and check beforehand if it has ingredients that you are allergic to. Do not lick knives and spoons. Do not blow your nose on the napkin. Don't play or let your children play with the cutlery.
Eating Food
Wait until everyone is served before eating. Don't stuff your mouth with food and do not talk with your mouth full. Chew with your mouth closed.
Phone: A major distraction
Keep your phone aside when you are at a restaurant. It is good to be connected to everything that is happening but not at the cost of your family or friends with whom you have planned a meet. Focus on having a good conversation instead of glueing to your phone all the time. Don't let your children play on your phone either.
Restaurant, not a place to linger
Once you are done with your food, be courteous and do not waste linger around. The restaurant will never ask you to leave but basic etiquette demands that you leave as soon as you are done with your meals. Thank the staff for their hospitality and never leave without leaving a tip.
