Snacks are basically little bites of food that one eats throughout the day to prevent overeating. But people have a habit of eating unhealthy, processed food as snacks which also adversely affects their health. Here is a list of a few healthy snacks that one can indulge in:
Muffins made from Bran whole wheat
Muffins are usually considered unhealthy because of the fat they induce into one’s body. But this recipe uses wheat bran cereal and whole wheat flour in the batter making it one of the healthy snacks that one can indulge in. The fat in the muffin can also be replaced by apple sauce. One can also have a memorable family time while baking the muffins. And the best part? One batch of muffins can serve as an evening snack for two days at least.
Lentil and charred broccoli chaat
This is not only a healthy evening snack but also takes care of leftovers. Charred broccoli and sprouts can form the key ingredients with a dash of olive dressing. One can include and exclude other items according to what their pantry holds like potatoes, beans, carrots, etc. A few pieces of chicken will definitely make the children love it more. This can also be included as a healthy diet option.
Oats idli
If anyone is calorie-conscious but cannot do away with their favourite idli, this evening snack seems to be perfect. Substituting rice with roasted oats and grated carrots definitely makes it one of the healthy snacks that one can gorge on. A few chopped chillies and coriander will also add some spice to the otherwise plain taste of this healthy food.
Chicken soup
This is an old but trusted snack that one could also add as a part of their evening snacks. Along with the chicken, one could also introduce potatoes, carrots, pumpkins or any such vegetable that children tend to avoid. This can be one healthy snack that one can serve their children. They can also spice it up with ginger, garlic and some lemon.
Chickpea falafel
Sounds exotic? Falafel is basically a Lebanese dish. But this can also be made in Indian kitchens with desi ingredients and they also serve as healthy snacks. They are made from chickpeas mixed with herbs, onion and other spices. While they are usually deep-fried in oils, the healthier option can be to bake them. This evening snack can also be gorged on by both vegetarians and vegans.
