Idiyappam with Curry

Idiyappam is commonly known as Noolappam in Kerala cuisine. It is made of rice, flour, salt, and water. A number of thin strands (sevai) are entwined together in order to make the lovely texture that the dish bears. It is actually the texture of it that makes it versatile. The dish can be had with all kinds of curries, but pairing it with egg curry makes for a delicious meal.

Puttu and Kadala Curry

A hot plate of Puttu and Kadala Curry makes for comfort-food. The dish is typically served as a breakfast in many households of Kerala. Puttu is prepared with ground rice and is layered with banana or coconut shavings. After that, it is steamed to obtain a proper cylindrical steamed rice cake. Kadala is a curry made by black chickpeas and is cooked in roasted coconut gravy. Puttu and Kadala is a perfect combination for breakfast as they complement each other very well.

Nadan Kozhi Varuthathu (Non-Vegetarian)

Nadan Kozhi Varuthathu is fried spicy chicken made with a generous amount of spices. It is served with onion, spices, garlic, and vinegar, on a banana leaf. The dish can be had with Kerala Porotta (a layered flatbread made of maida flour), chapattis, appam or rice. It is also served with dosa and is known as a popular street-food dish in Kerela.
