Punjabi cuisine is renowned for its taste and alluring presentation. From chole bhature to dal makhini, Punjabi dishes are just simply amazing. Punjabi dishes are not easy to make, as they require a plethora of ingredients. But once prepared, these dishes are truly rewarding in terms of taste. Take a look at some of the famous Punjabi desserts.
Five must-try Punjabi desserts:
1. Jalebi -Rabri:
Jalebi-Rabri is a match made in heaven. Cold rabri poured on top of hot jalebi truly tastes delicious and satisfies your tastebuds to a great extent. Jalebi-rabri is an inevitable part of the Punjabi dishes. Jalebi is made up a batter of all-purpose flour, sugar, saffron and desi ghee. On the other hand, rabri is a cold dessert, which is made up of milk, sugar and dry fruits. In fact, Jalebi is also known as Zulbia, in South Asia.
2. Kheer:
Kheer is an indispensable dessert of the Punjabi cuisine, which holds great historical significance as well. Kheer is a blend of rice, sugar, and milk; ingredients that are readily available in almost every other street of any North-Indian state. Kheer can be served both hot and cold, topped with a few almonds and cashews.
3. Phirni:
Phirni is an extremely popular dessert across India. Although it originated in the Southern part of the nation, still it managed to gain a lot of popularity amidst Punjabis. Individuals relish this delicious delicacy, especially during festivals like Diwali and Lohri. It is made up of rice and milk with a good amount of sugar in it. Phirni is easily available in every other restaurant, especially in North India.
4. Falooda:
Falooda is amongst the most saleable desserts in Punjab, and it’s invariably on the menu during any weddings or other events of Punjabis. There’s no dearth with respect to the variety of falooda's available in the market. People enjoy it thoroughly due to its refreshing and delicious taste. Falooda is either combined with kulfi or ice-cream scoops. Even though it is rich in calories, it is still consumed in large numbers, especially in North-India.
5. Suji Ka Halwa:
As the name suggests, suji ka halwa is made up of semolina, desi ghee and sugar. It is a very celebrated dessert in Punjab. As a matter of fact, people who visit Gurudwara to seek the blessings of Guru Granth sahib, are offered Kada Prasad which is halwa made up of wheat, thus making it an inevitable dessert of Punjab state. Halwa also has other variations such as badam ka halwa, sheera, or besan ka halwa as well.
