Tandoor Chicken has found a place among the world's best grilled chicken dishes, as per TasteAtlas.
Tandoori Chicken, an Indian grilled chicken delicacy created after marinated in yoghurt, and local spices, has found a place among the world's best grilled chicken dishes, according to TasteAtlas. This juicy, meaty delicacy popularised by the restaurants of Delhi finds its roots in Persia.
While the crown of India's grilled chicken ranks 19th, how it became a hot selling items in the streets of Delhi, and Lahore can be credited to Persian nomads. These travellers would gig up pits, and make use of heat generated by clay ovens to gill their meat.
Just like the nomads, their cooking techniques also made its way to Central Asia, specifically through northern India. Amidst the dairy farms, and wheat fields of Punjab, tandoor, considered a cooking vessel, assumed a new character. The chefs in those days experimented with chicken by mixing yoghurt, locally favoured spices, which were later marinated in dahi mixed with coriander, and cumin.
The Tandoori Chicken Version That Won 'Dilwalon Ki Dilli'
Delhi's Daryaganj, situated near the Red Fort, was where gujral's take on tandoori chicken won the hearts of every grilled chicken lover. Moti Mahal heightened the flavours of this dish, marinating chicken in yoghurt spiced with an earthy symphony of Punjabi flavours and baking it in the clay oven until it emerged scarlet, smoky, and crisp. Gujral’s tandoori chicken had found entry into India’s culinary masterpieces by finding a delicate balance between traditional taste, the yearning for modern twist.
