Born in Pune, Tarla Dalal started her cooking journey when she shifted to Mumbai post marriage. Tarla Dalal was the first Indian to have been awarded Padmashree award in 2007 in the culinary skills category. Mrs Tarla Dalal recently passed away in the year 2013. She left a legacy in the form of her son who manages the brand Tarla and is actively involved in the cookbook publications and Youtube channel's video production as well. All about the Tarla Dalal
The late Tarla Dalal started her culinary journey from the cooking classes that she provided at home. Her cooking classes were a huge success and her students always used to come out as culinary experts after the end of their Mrs Dalal's sessions. Tarla Dalal next ventured as a food writer after the success and fame of her cooking classes. In total, she was written 170 vegetarian cookbooks which were translated in many languages.
From the books, you will realise that the expert chef from Gujarat intertwines food science and art in a beautiful form. She has written books on nutrition, Indian cuisine, cookbooks on food curriculum, international cuisine, multicuisine cookbooks, traditional everyday cooking, cookbooks on grand menus, and on modern innovative cooking methods as well. Mrs Dalal’s cookbook series on health series was a massive success and has sold 6 million copies worldwide. Along with writing cookbooks, she simultaneously appeared in various cooking shows.
Tarla Dalal's achievements
- Smt. Tarla Dalal was honoured with Woman of the year award by Indian Merchant Chamber in 2005.
- She was awarded Padmashree award in the year 2007 for her contributions in the culinary world.
- Currently, her son Sanjay and team are taking forward her legacy to help the current generation with her cooking tricks and tips as well.
- Most of her TV show and live show appearances were done for charity all over the globe including India, but from Tokyo, Jakarta, Brussels, Antwerp, Hong Kong, Singapore, Zurich, Toronto, New York, and Durban.
- Her cooking show titled Cook it up with Tarla Dalal was so famous that it aired on Sony TV for three consecutive years with broadcasting available at Gulf, UK and even the US.
- During her reign, her cooking show website called tarladalal.com was one of the top 10 cookery websites in the world. A separate website is available for Hindi, Gujarati language and for the mobile version. There are approx 17000 recipes on her website.
- There is a Tarla Dalal App as well which is widely used by the cooking fanatics along with a Youtube channel where you can still see the legend Mrs Dalal's recipes into action.
