Chinese is one of the most popular foreign cuisines in India. Indians have adapted Chinese food to suit their tastebuds. The Indian-Chinese cuisine is packed with spices and several other ingredients that are commonly found in India. One can find Chinese food in every corner of India, starting from a small shack on the roadside to a high-end restaurant. Here are some of the most popular Chinese dishes that Indians have loved since seemingly forever.
1. Manchow Soup
Manchow soup is all you need when you are feeling a bit down. It is a staple in the Indo-Chinese culinary scene. The soup has a soy sauce base with strong flavours of ginger and garlic. The soup is served with a generous topping of fried noodles.
2. Spring Rolls
Spring rolls are actually Cantonese-style dumplings. The Chinese reportedly call these ‘Chūn Juǎn’. In India, these dumplings are deep-fried and served with schezwan sauce. They are a prominent snack at most parties, be it big or small.
3. Chop Suey
Chop Suey is a dish that is too good to be missed. Firstly, the noodles are fried. It is then topped with a gravy that is made of vegetables like cabbage, spring onion, bell peppers, etc. One can also opt for shrimp or chicken gravy if they want. The noodles and gravy are topped with a fried egg and have strong flavours of garlic in it.
4. Fried Rice
No list of Chinese food items can be complete without fried rice. Rice is cooked like normal and kept aside. It is then tossed in a mixture of veggies, eggs, chicken, and sauces including chilli sauce, soy sauce, etc. The delightful dish is served with a side of schezwan sauce or a gravy of your choice.
5. Hakka Noodles
Hakka noodles is an amalgamation of boiled noodles tossed in a variety of sauces and veggies. If you are a non-vegetarian, you can also top your noodles with egg, chicken, or even shrimp. Hakka noodles are usually pan-fried and a spicy favourite in every household.
