The state Goa is a famous tourist destination as it has got everything including sand, beach, sun but most importantly Goan food. Authentic Goan food is one of the main reason why people travel to Goa. The regular dishes of Goa include rice, coconut, meat, pork, fish and local spices like Kokum. Most of the dishes in Goa has Portuguese influence as Goa was under the dominance of Portuguese prior to 1961. Here are a few must-try Goan dishes that we have listed for you.

Goan Fish Curry

The Goan fish curry is an integral dish of the Goan cuisine. It is included in the staple diet of every Goan family. The curry is filled with various spices with coconut added to it. Sometimes, raw mango is also used to give the curry a tangy flavour. The main ingredients of the dish include decent-sized Pomfret or Kingfish. The Goan curry is usually served with rice.

Chicken Xacuti

Chicken Xacuti is a famous Portuguese influenced dish. It consists of Kashmiri red chillies and poppy seeds. Kashmiri chillies are used to give intense hot flavour to this dish. This Goan curry includes onions, chicken, potatoes, chillies, coconut and other spices.

Goan Vindaloo

Goan Vindaloo is yet another Portuguese influenced dish. The Vin comes from the word vinegar and ahlo in Portuguese means garlic. The dish was earlier called Vindahlo but because of the use of potatoes in the dish people started calling it Vindaloo. As aloo means potatoes in Hindi. The Goan Vindaloo included pork, onions, vinegar along with garlic and other spices to add flavour to the dish. The mixture is then stored overnight and then later the dish is made using essential herbs and onions. People in goa believe the older the dish gets, the tastier it will become as the meat gets marinated appropriately and absorbs all the flavour.

Ambot Tik

Ambot tik is another famous dish from the Goan cuisine. The word Ambot in the name of the dish means sour and tik means spicy. The dish includes Kokum which makes the dish sour while red chillies are used to spice up the flavour. Later the fish is diced and tossed with onions, tomatoes and the masala.
