Best Ayurvedic skin care tips
Know your dosha
In the Ayurvedic language, there is a thing known as ‘knowing your dosha’. This refers to having a better knowledge of your skin and its type. There are three doshas in Ayurveda- Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Vata is the thin, dry, delicate, fine and wrinkle-prone skin type. Pitta is susceptible to rashes, breakouts, and rosacea if out of balance. Kapha is the thicker and oilier skin type, which is prone to enlarged pores, blackheads, pimples, and eczema.
Exfoliate with sugar
Sugar is known for helping in boosting cell turnover and retaining moisture. It is considered to provide cooling to the skin. This helps make the skin relaxed. It is recommended to mix sugar with rejuvenating herbs and botanicals such as rose petals, slippery elm, and bhringraj, and using the paste as a face scrub.
Scrub with raw milk
Milk has tremendous moisturising, softening, and glowing properties. Full-fat milk or cream-based masks are best for soothing and cooling irritated or inflamed skin. Dip a cotton ball into a small bowl of raw milk, and wipe the face thoroughly with it to remove dirt from your pores. Coconut milk has similar properties.
Rosewater as a toner
Rosewater has cooling and soothing effects on the skin. It smells good and feels great on the skin too. Rosewater can be used as a toner several times a day, without any harm.
Spot treatment with Neem oil
Neem oil is drying and considered to be very similar to tea tree oil. It provides more cooling to the skin than any other oil and is better suited for the summer season. Neem oil can do wonders overnight and is a magical treatment for the skin. Use a cotton swab to apply it directly to pimples or spots of minor inflammation, for best results.
Disclaimer: Although Ayurveda mentions several beauty treatments for your skin, it is important that you consult a dermatologist before trying any new skin-care routine.
