Essential oils for sore throat: How coconut oil can be used to cure sore throat

A Sore throat can be due to an infection or an environmental factor such as dry air. This illness can affect different areas of the throat and is names according to where the inflammation takes place. Dry air can cause a sore throat. Smoke, air pollution and cleaning products are some irritants that can cause a problem in your throat. Bacteria and viruses cause approximately 90 per cent of sore throat infections. Viral infections include colds and flu caused by an influenza virus.
Coconut Oil as a Home Remedies:
Virgin coconut oil is capable of inactivating some pathogenic organism that causes a sore throat. Coconut oil contains Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFAs) which is proven to kill bacteria and viruses that can lead to other illness. MCFA present in coconut oil has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. They help in treating the infectious areas in your throat by directly attacking the cause of inflammation.
Try this recipe when you have a sore throat.
Ingredients:

4 tablespoons fresh-squeezed lemon juice

½ cup honey
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
Method:
- Heat a pan on low flame and add all the ingredients on it. Mix them well. Let it heat for a few minutes. Turn off and let it cool on room temperature and store it.
Rinsing your mouth daily with helps you reduce bacteria present in your mouth and throat area. It is also called oil pulling. Swish a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth for 10-15 minutes. Don't swallow the oil, but spit it out in the sink and then brush your teeth as normal. This method is more preventative than curative. The coconut oil can also be a substituted with sesame seed oil.
