Dental health is often considered to be one of the most essential aspects of the overall well-being of a person. A healthy set of teeth and gums is beneficial in the long run. People often believe that brushing their teeth two times a day is enough for maintaining dental hygiene, but that alone is not enough. It also boils down to the kind of diet people consume on a daily basis which can have a detrimental impact on dental health. Here are some of the best food items for maintaining strong dental health.
1. Almonds
One of the best food items you can add in your diet is almonds. Almonds are extremely great for your teeth because they are a good source of calcium and protein. While being blessed with abundant sources of calcium and proteins, they are also low in sugar. In your daily diet, make sure to carry a small box of almonds in your lunch bag and you can enjoy a quarter cup of almonds with your lunch. Besides lunch, you can add almonds to your cereal during breakfast.
2. Apples
Apples are considered to be one of the healthiest fruits and they should be included in your daily diet. Even though food items rich in sugar can wreak havoc with your dental health, apples are recommended by doctors because they are rich in fibre and water. The fibre present in the fruit helps to strengthen your gums. You can always carry an apple with you or carry a pack of sliced apples that can be eaten after lunch.
3. Carrots
The often believed fact that carrots are great for our eyes ultimately turned out to be a myth, but carrots are great for your dental health. Just like apples, carrots are also blessed with fibre. Besides fibre, carrots are also a great source of vitamin A. Always try to eat raw carrots because they increase saliva production in your mouth. This keeps the cavities at bay.
