Today’s lifestyle and skincare markets are packed with a large category of products for your skin. Also, there are so many home remedies for all types of skin issues. But there are also some popular skincare products and home remedies that can be harmful to your face and affect badly. Just to make the users alert of not using such products on their face, here is a list of things one should avoid including in your skincare.
Lemon
Lemon has highly acidic properties and should be avoided for application on the delicate skin of your face. Lemon is good for consumption but it has a different effect on your face due to its citrus properties. The oils contained in lemon are phototoxic – meaning that any irritation may be degraded to the point of chemical burn. If in case you are applying lemon to your face make sure that you do not apply it directly.
Body lotions
Body lotions may be great and moisturising for the body but they are absolutely not to be used for your face. Body lotions which mostly contain fragrances might aggravate your skin. The body lotion is thicker than facial creams and may, therefore, over-moisturise your facial skin. Facial creams are usually lighter and they contain gentle PH balance which is perfect for your face and neck area.
Soap bars
Soap bars are not at all good for the delicate skin on your face. Try to avoid using regular harsh soap as a face cleanser. It is not good for your facial skin because it contains chemicals that are both tough on the skin and unnatural. These soaps harm your facial skin by leaving it dry, rough, and irritated.
Hair spray or antiperspirant spray
Using hair spray or antiperspirant spray to set your makeup is not a suitable option for your face at all. Hair sprays used on the face can clog pores, cause breakouts, and dry out your skin because it contains alcohol. It leaves you with skin irritation and makes it dry and flaky.
Hot water
You may feel good after a hot water bath, but hot water is actually quite damaging to your skin. The hot water destroys all the moisture from your skin; and makes it dry and itchy. Lukewarm water is the best option for your skin when cleansing. Lukewarm water will not leave your skin feeling dry. It is especially advisable to avoid hot water during winter when your skin is more disposed to dryness.
