A tooth ache is a pain caused in and around teeth and jaws. It is often caused when the nerve to a tooth is irritated, but there are numerous reasons for a person to experience a tooth ache. Risk factors for tooth ache include dental infection, gum disease, dental decay, injury, and cracked teeth. If you have a tooth ache, it is important to figure out what is at the root of your discomfort at a very early stage of your pain. From there, you can determine how to best relieve any pain, swelling, or other symptoms of tooth ache. If you do not want to visit the dentist, the symptoms of a tooth ache can be alleviated at home as well. Here are some easy home remedies to reduce a tooth ache. Note that you should also talk to your dentist before using any of the following home remedies if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any medical condition that may be impacted by herbal ingredients.

1.  Saltwater rinse

For many people, a saltwater rinse is an effective first-line treatment for a tooth ache. Saltwater is a natural disinfectant and it can help loosen food particles and debris that may be stuck in between your teeth. Research also says that treating a tooth ache with salt water can help reduce inflammation and heal any oral wounds. Mix 1/2 tablespoon of salt into a glass of warm water and use it as a mouth wash.

2.  Peppermint tea bags

Peppermint tea bags can be used to numb pain and soothe sensitive gums. Take a used tea bag and allow it to cool down before applying it to the affected area. Note that it should still be mildly warm. You can also swap approaches and use this to cool, rather than warm, the tooth ache.
