Vineet Bhatia is a Michelin star chef hailing from Mumbai, residing in London. Recently, he was a part of Netflix’s new culinary competition, The Final Table. Who is Vineet Bhatia?
Vineet Bhatia operates his restaurants all around the world. His own named flagship, Vineet Bhatia London, closed one week after he won the Michelin star. However, he has several restaurants all around the world. This includes Rasoi (Switzerland and Bahrain), Amari (Mauritius), Indya (Dubai), Maharaja( Saudi Arabia, Riyadh), Saffron Lounge (Qatar), and Ziya (Mumbai).
Bhatia has also collaborated with Qatar Airways and British Airways for their respective in-flight meals and business class travellers. He has also written two cookbooks, Rasoi: New Indian Kitchen which was published in 2009 and My Sweet Kitchen in 2016.
His journey through the culinary world
Vineet Bhatia was born in 1967 in Mumbai. Initially, he desired to become a pilot. However, when he failed to pass a physical examination to join the Indian Air Force at the age of 17, he said that he decided to go in a completely different direction. Bhatia studied at Catering College from 1958 to 1988, followed by an economic degree. Later, he joined the Oberoi hotel group as a trainee in 1988. He was eventually appointed the chef de cuisine at the company’s Kandahar restaurant in Mumbai.
In 1993, Bhatia moved to London, where he found the status of Indian cuisine to be extremely low. He worked at Star India for five years and served the local diners with more authentic dishes from his native country. In 1998, he and a partner attempted to open their own restaurant. However, the attempt was failed due to permitting delays. Also, Vineet was forced to cook for the public out of his own home. After a year, he partnered in Zaika in London Chelsea’s neighbourhood. The restaurant won a Michelin star in 2001, making Vineet Bhatia the first Indian chef to receive this honour.
Vineet's cooking style
In 2004, Vineet took a step ahead and opened his own restaurant, Rasoi in the Chelsea neighbourhood. Later, the restaurant received several international accolades, and Vineet shaped his career as a global restaurateur. According to a leading daily, Vineet Bhatia’s cuisine style is cutting edge and offers tapas-style portions. Reportedly, the chef gets inspired by everything around and all aspects of his life for his unique dishes.
