Being physically active is the first step towards good heart health. Your heart is a muscle, and it gets stronger and healthier if you follow an active routine life. For optimum heart health, the American Heart Association recommends 30 minutes of exercise. Here are five ways to keep your ticker in shape.
Swimming
Swimming is one of the best aerobic exercises around. As per research two and a half hours of swimming per week will give the required heart health benefits. It can lead to a host of benefits such as reduced heart rate, improved breathing, circulation, better blood pressure, and weight control.
Walking
In one large study, researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health found that walking half an hour a day will reduce the overall risk of heart disease by 18 per cent. You can get in walking time by walking to work, walking to the grocery store, and walking around your neighbourhood. Walking is enjoyable, safe, and inexpensive.
Climbing Stairs
To get the maximum heart health benefit, climbing stairs is an easy way to get into that. You can do this exercise at home or at the gym on a stair machine. According to the case study, seven minutes stair climbing a day can halve the risk of heart attack over 10 years.
Cycling
The pumping motion of the large muscles in your legs is a great aerobic exercise for the heart. To prevent injury when biking, make sure your bike is properly adjusted for your body. Regular cycling reduces the risk of health problems such as stroke and heart attack.
Yoga and Core
You might not consider yoga a great workout for your heart, but that is not true. Yoga and Pilates help in building all-over strength and muscle tone. Practising yoga may help lower blood pressure, blood cholesterol and blood glucose levels. If you have a heart condition, speak to your doctor and ask which yoga will be right for you.
