Oily skin is the result of over-accumulation of sebum on your skin's surface. It is a fatty substance that is produced by the sebaceous glands located under the skin surface. Sebum is not all bad since it helps protect and moisturize your skin and keeps your hair shiny, but overproduction of sebum leads to acne and clogged pores on the skin. The best way to resolve the issue without following expensive skincare regimes is by using home remedies.

Some easy tips to avoid oily skin

1. Wash your face often

It seems obvious, but many people with oily skin do not wash their face often. You can easily keep dirt and acne away by washing your face at least twice a day. Of course, you should not overdo it. Maintain a distance from harsh soaps and rough skincare products. Instead, go for smooth glycerine soap or face wash that suits your skin type.

2. Keep your hands off!

Having oily skin does make you more acne-prone because sebum is the key instigator of breakouts. When blackheads or blemishes take over your skin, it is easy to unleash your inner teenager and pick or squeeze out the frustration. It is advised to keep your hands off your face, because they may carry bacteria that can just trigger the acne growth. Instead, you can use medicated pads or blotting papers to pull excess oil from your skin.

3. Aloe vera soothes the skin

Aloe vera is known for soothing burns and other skin conditions. Although it is used widely by the cosmetic industry in skincare products, raw aloe vera is more effective. You can apply a thin layer of aloe vera on your face before bedtime and leave it on until morning. If you have not used it before, apply a small amount of it on your forearm. If no reaction appears within 24 hours, it should be safe to use.

4. Hydrate and moisturize

One of the biggest mistakes that people with oily skin make is that they keep away from moisturizer. It is essential to keep your skin hydrated. Many of them even fear that using moisturizer will make their skin look greasier, but using the right moisturizer can benefit your skin type. You need to choose wisely. Ideally, an oil-free, lightweight moisturizer with a watery texture is the way to go.
