There are certain types of foods that will prove to be healthy in your PCOS diet, while you need to avoid certain types. Here is a list of food to avoid.
PCOS, or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, is a condition that can be found among women that are in their reproductive age. It is also called PCOD or Polycystic Ovary Disorder. This is a hormonal disorder results in irregular periods, weight gain, or excess male hormones. As it is with almost all disorders, doctors always recommend foods that you need to eat or foods that you must avoid in order to keep this condition in check.
Here are some foods that you must avoid having if you have PCOS.
Sugar
PCOS increases the chances of gaining diabetes. It also leads to weight gain. The excess sugar will lead to an addition in your already-gained PCOS weight. So, this makes it important to avoid all kinds of artificial sweeteners, packaged juices, sweets, and candies.
Junk food
Junk food generally dominates all kinds of ‘not-to-eat’ lists. It’s no wonder that it is also a part of the foods that you need to avoid if you have PCOS. Junk food, especially processed food, increases bad cholesterol in the body. It also affects blood pressure and triggers diabetes.
Dairy products
Products like milk and butter can be enjoyed by women with PCOS, but all of it must have a limit. Dairy’s excess consumption will lead to an increase in insulin and also cause an increase in the blood glucose level. A balanced diet with the necessary dietary items thus becomes essential.
Gluten
Presence of PCOS means there must be a necessary decrease in gluten-contained foods. Wheat-based bread, pasta, or cereals are to be avoided. They can result in inflammation in women with PCOS. They have a high glycemic index, which spikes the blood glucose level.
Red meat
Red meat like mutton, beef, and pork have saturated fat and cholesterol. These increase the risk of you getting cardiovascular diseases. It also leads to weight gain. The existing weight gain will also shoot up.
This disorder can be tackled with regular exercise, good hygiene, and a balanced diet.
