Anger can be disruptive in multiple ways and when not managed well, it can really destroy lives. Anger can cause distress when it turns to aggression, outbursts, or even physical altercations. Controlling one's anger and managing it effectively is thus very crucial. Anger management can help you avoid saying or doing something you may later regret. A few tips and tricks below shall help you manage anger issues and aid in calming you down.
1. Focus on your Breathing and count numbers
A tip that helps many in dealing with anger issues is to focus on breathing. One must inhale deeply and exhale slowly. Do this 5 times and focus on your breathing. The more you do this, the more change you shall witness in yourself.
Another tip that helps is to count numbers. Within 2 minutes, count as many numbers as possible. The idea is to effectively divert your mind from the anger issue and focus your mind on something else.
2. Walks or Physical Activity
Physical activities often help take your mind off bad issues and problems and help you release the pent up emotions. Anger issues can be dealt with in a healthy way by going out for a walk, jog, run or any other physical activity. One can also try listening to good music while walking, just to stay calm and relaxed.
3. Mirror Talks or Mantra
Many people prefer getting some solitude time and they consider it a good way to release pent up emotions. Anger naturally subsides when one chants a mantra, something like, "You can do this" or "It's going to be okay" or "calm down". Mantras help a person to be aware of their situation and take matters in their hands without regretting later on.
4. Journaling
For many, talking it out just does not work but writing it down does. Anger issues can be dealt with by penning it all down. Allowing yourself to vent it out on paper is sometimes a good way to release those toxic thoughts. Journaling also helps in thinking over the anger later on and introspecting and reflecting on the subject.
5. Practice Gratitude and Laugh
This is a technique that requires patience and practice. This is where one has to train their mind to look at the situation from a different perspective. When the incident is viewed in a different light, one can take it lightly and laugh it off rather than get angry and say a few things they would later regret. When one focuses on what’s right when everything feels wrong, that is when the feeling of gratitude emerges.
