Every country has a different concept of hygiene, access to disposable paper and water availability resulting in body's most natural functions being dealt with in a variety of ways. Toilets were hence created by people according to their needs and places. The shape and function of the toilets are different all over the globe. Here is the list of different types of toilets all around the world.

European Toilets

European toilets are the same as American or Western-style toilet. European bathrooms often feature an extra fixture which is known as a bidet. In recent times, bidets are common plumbing fixtures in Italian, French, Spanish, and Portuguese homes.

South American Toilets

Latin American or South American toilet system does not allow the disposing of toilet paper in the toilet. The plumbing systems of these cities cannot process toilet paper. After all, flushing toilet paper in toilets results in backups and clogs. So, most houses keep a trashcan beside the toilet for used toilet paper disposal.

African Toilets

In the northern part of Africa, toilets are the western-style sit-down toilet. But on the other hand, African countries have squat toilets. Apart from this, In many sub-Saharan African places, they do not have a proper toilet and people must go outdoors, which causes many sanitation issues.

Japanese Toilets

There are two types of toilets in Japan, one is the old squat and the other is the bidet style. The old squat type is commonly used in public conveniences. The bidets are commonly known as washlet in Japan. Some of the common features of Japanese washroom are bidet washing, seat warming, and deodorisation.

Chinese Toilets

These toilets are better considered as pits. Most of the toilets in China are squat toilets as they are beneficial for the digestive system. Apart from this, some of the big cities have at least one western-style toilet in public restrooms or mall.

The different cultures around the globe have different ways to use toilets. Various technologies can be used to create a toilet that is suitable for different purpose and needs. But there are still millions of people eliminating in the streets, while some are using the most advanced toilets.
