International Men's Day celebrated on November 19 commemorates the positive influence that men across the globe bring upon their families, neighbourhoods, corporate environment, and the world at large. Meanwhile, this day also places issues faced by men such as abuse, parental alienation, and ideas that promote toxic masculinity to the fore.
History of International Men's Day
The credit behind creating this day belongs to Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, who took this step to honour his father's birthday, and commemorate a soccer match that brought his country together. The first International Observance speech was given in 1999.
Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, said, "International Men’s Day has the potential to become the global medium to heal our world. The concept and themes of International Men’s Day are designed to give hope to the depressed, faith to the lonely, comfort to the broken-hearted, transcend barriers, eliminate stereotypes and create a more caring humanity."
