Ciao - Hello

First things first, let's start with learning how to greet someone. You should thus say Ciao - Hello, before starting a conversation with someone. However, it is also used to say goodbye.

Come ti chiami – What’s your name?

It is obvious to ask someone their name to start a conversation. Start with Come ti Chiami which means what's your name?

Si - Yes / No - No.

These are another two words used widely to agree or disagree with what the other person is saying.

Per favour - Please.

When asking someone for a favour, be polite and thus it is necessary to add per favour to your sentence very often.

Grazie - Thank you.

Every time someone offers you help or does a favour to you be kind and say Grazie, which means thank you.

Prego - You're welcome.

If you happen to help someone and they thank you, reply Prego, meaning you are welcome.

Mi scusi - Excuse me.

Buon Giorno - Good morning.

Greeting someone in the morning, be it your tour guide or your hotel attendant, wish them Buon Giorno.
