1. Sa Wat Dee or Hello
Greet everyone on your way. Even if you are not able to catch the accent properly, Thai’s reply will make you understand better. This greeting will help you interact with the locals there.
2. Kawp Koon or Thank you
Bow down and wish thank you to them using this phrase. This is a symbol of politeness and that you are cultured. This will make your experience out of the world and Thai would love it.
3. Chai or Mai Chai which means yes or no respectively
It is always a good idea to know a few words that are regularly used in a language. Learning simple words do not harm. You will digest chai and mai chai soon, and too much that it will be reflex. You will not even have to think those words.
4. Kor tot means Excuse me
This is basic etiquette. Thailand is crowded. From hopping on a boat to walking down the streets, this word will be frequently used to make people understand that you want space to move ahead. Instead of using excuse me, go for kor tot, as you will garner more attention from the locals.
5. Lah Gorn or goodbye
See you soon or nice meeting you might not be understandable. Well, it will be easier now to say goodbye and express yourself. If you are parting ways with somebody, go for lah gorn and get a smile along with the reply in return.
6. Haawng naam yuu thee nai? Which means where is the bathroom in English?
There are times when you want to use the bathroom but cannot find one. During the times of emergency, you can ask locals if they know of any. Before it is too late, you have to know where the restroom is. Using this simple phrase can solve your problem in a jiffy.
7. Leo Sai or Leo Kwaa: When you are giving directions, this means turn left or turn right.
Grasp in some basic knowledge about the directions, you that you do not get fooled by anyone. Furthermore, understand how to give directions in this language, which can be as simple as learning telling them to turn right or left. At least, you will feel confident and more likely to arrive at the correct destination.
