You'll never guess which actual modern family visited Modern Family's set

One of the joys of TV shows that feature kids are getting to see them grow up and tackle various stages of development both on- and off- the screen. We witnessed this happening with Full House over two decades ago; Home Improvement towards the end of the Nineties; Two And A Half Men in the Noughties, and we're also getting to see it, albeit on a completely different level, in the ongoing Game of Thrones.
Perhaps the most famous show sporting kids at this point in time are Modern Family, which has been on the air for eight seasons now. The documentary sitcom had four kids on its cast, to begin with, namely, Haley, Alex, Luke, and Manny, and has now amped up that number to six, adding Lily and Joe.
One of the issues that immediately confronts writers as a show starring kids progresses is how to deal with them doing things such as graduating high school, going to college, getting into relationships and getting married.
On Modern Family, both Haley and Alex's runs in college were conveniently disrupted on account of getting kicked out and illness respectively. Nobody's got married as yet, though there have been close calls. And now, with the ninth and likely penultimate season coming, the show's makers will likely have to deal with some of the other kids also 'coming of age'.
Lucky for them, the show has had a proper modern family come to visit the set and hopefully advise on what to do going forward. And which was this modern family?
Here's a couple of hints -
- The dad, while not quite as ridiculous as Phil Dunphy, can do some ridiculous things with a football.
- The mom is a star singer who put her career on the sidelines to raise her kids
- The oldest of the family's children is named after a suburb in New York
- The second son is named after the greatest male romantic of all time. And we're not talking about Pepé Le Pew
- The third son's name is Cruz
- The youngest child, a daughter, is named after the author of To Kill a Mockingbird and her dad's favourite jersey number
We're sure you've got it by now.
Yes, none other than the Beckhams paid a visit to the Modern Family set! And here's proof, posted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Mitch, on Instagram -
(Back-front, left to right: David, Victoria, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, Harper Seven and what looks like a friend of Romeo's)
The caption reads - The role of Claire is being played by @victoriabeckham. The role of Phil is being played by @davidbeckham. The role of Victoria Beckham is being played by @jessetyler. Thank you all for coming to visit the Modern Family set today! We loved having you all!!! ❤️EDIT: the family was only visiting the set, not shooting an episode. Although I think David could be Lily's new soccer coach. 🙄
