Bergen is Norway's second-largest city with a population of roughly 270,000. King Olav Kyrre founded the city of Bergen in 1070, and it was the country's capital from 1110 until 1299. Bergen is called ‘the city between seven mountains’ because of the many mountains that surround it. At 624 meters, Mount Ulriken is the tallest of them. Today Bergen is an important centre for the shipping and oil industries, as well as for aquaculture, the food processing industry and higher education. Bergen is also a European City of Culture and its many museums and art galleries are well worth a visit.

With a population of approx. 130,000, Stavanger is Norway’s fourth-largest city. The town is known as Norway's energy capital. From steep mountains and lovely fjords to long, wild beaches along the open coastline of Jæren: everything is within easy reach of the city of Stavanger. The city has several museums and collections, of both local and national interest. The Norwegian Petroleum Museum is the most popular museum in the city and is currently the only petroleum museum in Europe.
Tromsø
Tromsø is called the "Gateway to the Arctic" because it enjoys more Northern Lights than anywhere else in the world. The city also has two whole months of Midnight Sun. Tromsø is the largest city north of the Arctic Circle in the Nordic countries and it is famous for the Northern Lights, the Midnight Sun, Polar Nights, the Arctic Cathedral and the University of Tromsø. Some visitors prefer to see the magnificent display of Northern Lights from a mountain top shielded from the city’s lights, while others are just as impressed right in the city centre.
