Travel: Basic French words to speak when travelling to Paris

Basic words to learn if you are travelling to Paris
Bonjour – Hello
Greeting someone is the first thing you learn while learning any language. In French, Bonjour means Hello, which is one of the basic things to learn.
S'il Vous plait – “Please”
When on foreign land, you represent your country in some way hence, being polite is necessary. S'il Vous Plait which literally means please is a word we should use more often, travelling or not.
Comment t'appelles-tu? – “What’s your name?”
Meeting new people on foreign land is expected and thus it is essential to start a conversation by asking their name.
Oui/Non – “Yes/No”
Yes and no are another two important words most widely used in any conversation and you can refer to the words above.
Comment Allez-Vous? – “How are you?”
This is a polite way of asking someone how they are doing. This can be said in a formal and an informal way.
Je voudrais parler français – “I would like to speak French”
The French are very particular about their language. If they find you struggling to speak the foreign language, they would start speaking in English. Hence, if you want to politely ask them to help you in developing your vocabulary, you can tell them politely.
Excusez-Moi – “Excuse me”
To get someone’s attention, whether it is a stranger on the street or the waiter you can say Excusez-Moi. It is also a polite way to ask someone to get out of your way.
Pardon – “Sorry”
If you happen to bump into someone while wandering around, saying sorry is considered polite.
Je ne comprends pas – “I don’t understand”
Sometimes, when a person starts speaking and you find it difficult to catch up with what he/she is saying, you can say Je ne comprends pas.
Où est…? – “Where is…?”
You might find yourself saying this every now and then while travelling around the city. For the right direction to your destination ask a stranger to help you out.
