Tamil Nadu BJP State President K Annamalai strongly criticised the DMK government's management of medical facilities following a distressing incident at a government hospital in Chennai on Monday, December 11, where a baby's body was handed over in a cardboard box. Annamalai emphasised the lack of timely medical attention, citing the unavailability of ambulances to transport a man's wife to the hospital.

Annamalai's critique, condemns DMK Government's handling of medical facilities

"In the midst of the Health Minister being occupied with conducting marathons and defending the Chief Minister's errors, a medical infrastructure that was once highly sought after in the country has now reached a nadir under the corrupt DMK government and is rapidly approaching an irreparable state," stated Annamalai in a post on X.

Expressing concern over the government's response to such incidents, Annamalai criticised the practice of merely announcing compensation or nominal suspensions. He highlighted the necessity for tangible improvements in the healthcare system.

A call for action

"There were no ambulances available to transport his wife to the hospital in time, and subsequently, the mortal remains of his baby were handed over in a cardboard box by a government hospital in Chennai. The State Government must realise that brushing aside these issues by announcing compensation or superficial suspensions does not address the anguish faced by people reliant on government hospitals. Constructive steps to enhance medical infrastructure are urgently needed," reiterated the Tamil Nadu BJP Chief.

Tamil Nadu Govt highlights their efforts

In contrast, the Tamil Nadu government had previously highlighted its efforts in organising 16,516 special medical camps that provided treatment to approximately 7.83 lakh individuals. Health Minister Ma Subramanian emphasised the effectiveness of these camps in controlling diseases like dengue, chikungunya, and malaria, particularly after the Northeast Monsoon.

"Following the Northeast Monsoon, a total of 16,516 medical camps have been conducted across Tamil Nadu. This is unprecedented, as there has never been such an extensive number of medical camps held before. Through these medical camps, 7,83,443 people have benefited," said Health Minister Ma Subramanian, noting the decline in mosquito-borne diseases due to these extensive medical interventions.

The contrasting perspectives highlight the ongoing debate regarding healthcare infrastructure in Tamil Nadu, with political leaders and the government offering differing viewpoints on its current state and effectiveness.

Anamalai on TN’s deteriorating medical facilities

Earlier, the BJP Chief had criticised the DMK government after a patient died due to a power outage in the ICU around November 27. "It is disheartening to witness the deteriorating condition of government hospitals under the corrupt DMK government. While a DMK Minister without portfolio, Senthil Balaji, arrested for corruption, prefers a private hospital for treatment, a patient lost her life due to the unavailability of power backup in a critical area such as an ICU in a government hospital. This is a stark reality check against the tall claims made by the TN CM," stated Annamalai at that time.
