Nitish Kumar takes over as JDU president
After being elected as JDU president, Nitish Kumar has finally accepted the decision.
New Delhi: Hours after being elected as JDU president on Friday, Nitish Kumar has finally accepted the decision. The decision has been finally ratified at the executive meeting. Earlier, Lalan Singh had stepped down from the party top post and proposed Kumar's name, according to senior leader KC Tyagi.
This development comes at a time when JDU leaders, including Kumar, are not happy with seat-sharing arrangement with the other INDI alliance partners, raising speculations of joining hands with BJP once again ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. According to reports, Kumar was not even consulted before Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's name was proposed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and subsequently backed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The party is of the opinion that Kumar was instrumental in bringing all the INDI alliance partners on one platform. Earlier in the day, Tyagi said,"(Bihar CM) Nitish Kumar is the convenor and Prime Minister of the ideas of the INDIA alliance".
