Dehadrai, a lawyer by profession who was reportedly close to Mahua, initiated the charges against her after the two had a fallout. Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai and the TMC MP have been involved in a long custody battle over their pet Henry, a Rottweiler dog. In yet another tweet, Dehadrai informed that he had received information from a well-wisher that Henry was deliberately locked up inside a residence to deter CBI from entering. Expressing concern for his pet's safety, he stated that Henry is a large Rottweiler and although he is gentle, he does possess a strong protective instinct.

A well-wisher has told me that Henry is being kept deliberately locked up inside the Telegraph Lane residence to deter CBI from entering.

Henry is a large Rottweiler, and although gentle, but he does possess a strong protective instinct.

I am now truly fearful for HIS safety.

Henry always loved being by my side - in the office, at home… hated leaving me alone.

Who is Jai Anant Dehadrai, whom Mahua called her ‘jilted ex’

Jai Anant Dehadrai, by Moitra's own admission, was a close friend of hers. The two are currently engages in a custody battle over their pet dog.
Dehadrai had asserted that he got Henry in 2021 when he was 40 days old and since then he has been his caregiver. In the duration of the past six months, Moitra had filed multiple police complaints against Dehadrai for alleged criminal trespass, theft, vulgar messages and abuse, as per PTI.

According to the legal notice, she stated that the two had a fallout due to Dehadrai allegedly sending repeated threats consisting of malicious, vulgar messages and trespassing on her official residence and stealing her personal possessions, including Moitra’s dog. However, the legal notice revealed that the dog was later returned.

Moitra further registered police complaints against Dehadrai, alleging that he asked journalists to publish fake news against her but couldn't due to lack of evidence. As he could not succeed in doing so, he approached BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and propagated these allegations without even verifying and fact-checking. She also stated in her notice that Dubey and Dehadrai have allegedly leaked private photos of Moitra after cropping them.

Cash for query row

Business tycoon Darshan Hiranandani last week in his confession to the Parliamentary Ethics Panel admitted of using Moitra's Parliamentary login credentials to ask questions targeting Adani after state-owned behemoth Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) booked capacity at the Gujarat-based conglomerate's Dhamra LNG import facility in Odisha and not at his firm's planned facility. He claimed Moitra "made frequent demands" including "expensive luxury items, providing support on renovation of her officially allotted bungalow in Delhi, travel expenses, holidays, etc, apart from providing secretarial and logistical help for her travels within India and to different parts of the world."

This entire row erupted after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused Moitra of taking "cash and gifts" from Hiranandani to "ask questions in Parliament". The BJP MP wrote a letter to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Minister of State (MoS) IT Rajeev Chandrashekhar, making "cash for query" allegations against Moitra and demanding an inquiry committee against her. Dubey mentioned that he received information from Dehadrai, wherein he reportedly shared undeniable evidence of bribes exchanged between Moitra and Hiranandani to ask question(s) in Parliament.

However, Moitra responded to the allegations, stating that the allegations were based on a “jilted ex’s lies”.

Reacting to Dubey's allegation, Mahua Moitra posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, and mentioned that all parliamentary work of MPs done by PAs, assistants, interns, large teams and urged Ashwini Vaishnaw to release details of location & login details of ALL MPs with CDRs. “Please release info on training given to staff to login,” she wrote.

She also sent legal notices to Nishikant Dubey, Dehadrai and several media organisations for levelling defamatory allegations against her and filed a defamation suit against them before the Delhi High Court.

The Adani Group also reacted to the row, stating that “some groups and individuals have been working overtime to harm our name, goodwill and market standing.”
