Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has a reputation of being a man of his words. Known for quietly delivering on his promises, Gadkari is often credited for improving India's road infrastructure. Speaking at Republic's Rashtra Sarvopari Sammelanon on Thursday, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways said that India aims to be in the top three economies in the world in next five years, providing a vision for the country's future roadmap.Addressing the audience, Gadkari said, “We have to make the country the third economic power in the world in the next five years. We aim to be in top three economies in the world in next five years. This is the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India third largest economy of the world.” The Union Minister lauded the Republic Bharat's 'Nation First' theme and said, “I think 'Nation First' is a good theme, this programme is based on what the country will be like in the coming 50 years and what its vision will be.” Elaborating on the roadways infrastructure projects in the pipeline, Gadkari said, "We have done an expenditure of Rs 24,000 crore in Ayodhya. There's always a discussion on North East, we are working on projects worth Rs 74,000 crore. In Delhi, we are working on projects worth Rs 65,000 crore." He added, “After the launch Regional Rapid Transit System, time taken to cover distance between Delhi to Meerut takes 50 minutes, While, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be ready by February 2024, after which time taken to reach Delhi from Mumbai will take 12 hours.” Elaborating on the development of the infrastructure, he further added, “We Indians often talk about shortening the distance between Kashmir and Kanyakumari, the dream is soon going to get completed in coming one year. Earlier the time taken from Manali to Rohtang pass was three-and-a-and-half hours, now, it takes 8.5 minutes to reach there. Zojila tunnel in Kargil stands our pride. I request you to visit the tunnel.” PM Modi on October 20 inaugurated the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor at Sahibabad RapidX Station in Uttar Pradesh and flagged off the RapidX train connecting Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, marking the launch of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in the country.The expressway will be connecting the states of Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The journey between Delhi and Chennai will be considerably shorter thanks to a new expressway by an astounding 1,312 kilometers.
