The Winning Match
Stoked by her victory, Manasi expressed pleasure over winning the game a year before Tokyo Paralympics in 2020. The 30-year old player defeated three-time world champion Parul Parmar to pick up this victory. Starting at a slow pace with the score of 2-7, Manasi defeated Parmar with 21-12, 21-7 by the end of the game. Manasi has been practicing since 2015 and she went on to express her joy by saying that it’s her dream come true to win a gold at the Para championship. Manasi also congratulated PV Sindhu on her win and said, "PV Sindhu, you are GOAT!" which means the greatest of all time.
The Story behind her success
Manasi was hit by a truck at a busy junction when she lost her left leg in an accident in 2011. She suffered multiple injuries and broke her arms as well. Manasi was rushed to the hospital and took nearly 10 hours to make it to the operation theater. After a 12-hour long surgery, she woke up to find out that she was left with an amputated leg due to gangrene. However, the unfortunate incident did not stop her from competing mainstream; she learned to walk with a prosthetic limb in 2012 and after four months of learning, Manasi participated in many inter-company badminton championships. Her spirit never let her lose hope and she decided to turn pro in 2014. With her continuous hard work and struggle, she went on to achieve her dream at the 2019 Para- BWF World Championships.
