“The Revival Series is a tremendous celebration of women’s basketball, featuring two of the most storied programs in college hoops,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “We’re proud to continue the Revival Series with Tennessee and UConn, creating a fantastic environment for fans while generating funds for charitable causes.”
The programs with the most national championships met regularly between 1995 and 2007. But UConn and Tennessee had not faced each other until this Revival Series was arranged.
A $10,000 donation was made to the Pat Summitt Foundation for the first game, and a portion of this game will benefit the Pat Summitt Foundation, the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The Basketball Hall of Fame will monitor the coronavirus pandemic and will update as needed. The game in Knoxville will be part of Tennessee's season ticket package with other tickets for the game against UConn going on sale later this fall.
“It was a very meaningful experience for us to be involved with this event last season, and we look forward to hosting the game on The Summitt in 2021," Tennessee coach Kellie Harper said.
UConn leads the all-time series 14-9 with the Lady Vols winning three of the past four games. UConn coach Geno Auriemma said he thinks college basketball fans were excited to see the Huskies and Tennessee back on the court together for a great game.
“I expect nothing less when we travel to Knoxville this season,” Auriemma said in a statement. "I’m sure the fans in Rocky Top have missed me.”
