After LSG and RCB, Mumbai Indians undergo significant changes into their coaching roster

After the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians have made some changes to their support staff line. MI finished in the third position in the 16th edition of the tournament whereas lost to Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2023. The 'Men in Blue and Gold' last won an IPL trophy in the year 2020, whereas displayed disappointing performance in the 2021 and 2022 editions of the tournament.

Mumbai Indians bring in Lasith Malinga as the new bowling coach

Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024 as per a report by ESPNcricinfo, Mumbai Indians have brought in Sri Lanka legend Lasith Malinga as the new bowling coach of the team. Malinga will replace Shane Bond and will begin his second stint as a member of the team's support staff in the IPL 2024. Malinga was the mentor of the 'Men in Blue and Gold' in the IPL 2018, whereas, returned as a player in the 2019 edition. The former Sri Lanka pacer has also won four IPL titles with the team (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019). 

After retiring from the cash-rich league in 2021, Lasith Malinga served as the bowling coach of the Rajasthan Royals, but after returning to his old team will aim to work with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, and strengthen the team's pace attack. Lasith Malinga began his career in the Indian Premier League in the year 2009 and ended up taking 170 wickets from 122 IPL matches. 

RCB and LSG also make key changes in their support staff 

Apart from the Mumbai Indias, Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore have also made some key changes to their support staff. At one end. Andy Flower has replaced Sanjay Bangar as the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, LSG has added the former Indian cricket team chief selector MSK Prasad as the strategic consultant of their team in the IPL 2024.
