Australia’s ODI and T20I vice-captain Alex Carey grabbed headlines on Friday for his stunning catch in a Sheffield Shield game. Playing for South Australia, Carey took a stunning diving catch off Wes Agar’s bowling. Carey’s catch caused quite a buzz on Twitter. Many fans have also suggested that he should replace Tim Paine in the Test squad.

Alex Carey has been knocking down the selectors’ door for some time now. His quick-fire hundred in the last game against Victoria underlined his capabilities in the longest format of the game. As soon as Cricket Australia shared the video of Carey’s catch, Twitteratis were left in awe. Many lauded him, while also others also claimed that he should be Australia’s No.1 keeper-batsman in all formats of the game.

Carey’s stunning catch and debutant Wes Agar’s impressive spell meant that Queensland finished the day at 70/3. Agar picked up all three wickets which included the likes of Matt Renshaw, Joe Burns and captain Usman Khawaja. Earlier, South Australia were bowled out for 221 with Michael Neser picking up a 5-wicket haul.
Alex Carey made his ODI debut in January 2018. He has been in fine form for Australia. Carey has scored 804 runs in the 29 matches he has played at an average of 40. Carey had a stellar World Cup campaign as a finisher, scoring 375 runs in 10 matches. He was appointed as the team's vice-captain in May 2018.
