New Zealand all-rounder, Colin de Grandhomme after powering his team to a 14 run victory over England on Tuesday said that it feels nice to beat a 'good team'. Grandhomme said that England is a pretty good team that you have to keep hitting them hard. In the third match, Colin de Grandhomme played an instrumental role in making sure New Zealand remained ahead of England's game plan with a spectacular knock of 55 runs off just 35 deliveries laced with five fours and three sixes.
"We were probably 20 runs short": Grandhomme
Despite putting up 180 on the scoreboard for England to chase, de Grandhomme felt that the team was 20 runs short. "We had to bowl and field well and also pick wickets quick to put them under pressure. 9-10 runs per over, here at Saxton Oval is pretty much gettable because all you have to do is just hit one out and get 5 singles. It is not that difficult but our bowlers executed and did a great job," de Grandhomme said. He further added, "The bowlers were actually happy with that total, I felt that we fell short of around 20 runs but the bowlers backed themselves and did a fantastic job."
New Zealand edge past England
Hosts New Zealand beat England by 14 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match T20 series on Tuesday at the Saxton Oval, Nelson. Chasing a target of 181 runs, England fell short of their target by 14 runs at the end of 20 overs, handing the Kiwis a much-needed win. England's opening batsman Tom Banton was dismissed for 27 runs after which Dawid Malan and James Vince got the scoreboard ticking with knocks of 55 and 49 respectively. Following Dawid Malan's fifty, he was dismissed by Ish Sodhi as he tried to dispatch it to a six but found the fielder instead. That was the beginning of the end for England's run chase as the middle-order and the lower order of the England line-up failed to put a battle against New Zealand's bowling attack, ultimately falling short by 14 runs. Colin de Grandhomme was adjudged the man of the match for his knock of 55 runs off 35 balls. The two teams will next meet at Napier on November 8 for the fourth T20 clash.
