Guyana Amazon Warriors assured their CPL 2019 playoffs spot with a 12-run win (DLS method) in a rain-troubled chase against Barbados Tridents. Guyana's bowlers yet again carried their side to another victory. Chris Green bowled his career-best spell of 4 for 14. Spinners Shoaib Malik (1) and Imran Tahir (2) played a crucial role in halting Tridents for 138 runs. Brandon King's first-class 51* gave pace to Warriors' innings while chasing before the rains stopped the play after the 11th over.

Amazon Warriors were technically ahead of the required score according to the DLS method and accordingly won the match. They are currently holding the top position in the table with not a single loss in the six games played. Barbados Tridents are in the fourth position with four points in the five matches played.

About the match

Barbados Tridents had a thrilling start to match as Johnson Charles, and Alex Hales scored 12 runs off Rabada's first four-balls before Charles was caught by the third man. Rabada went for 16 runs in his first over and Tridents' batsmen went to score 63 runs in the first power-play with two men down. Tahir got the required break-through for the Amazon Warriors as he got Alex Hales and J.P Duminy in the same over after the power-play. The brilliant over from the South African slowed down Tridents' innings as they struggled in the later overs with regular fall of wickets. Tridents' batsmen were clearing the rope occasionally but Green-led bowling hampered them for a total of 138 runs.

Chandrapaul Hemraj along with King cemented a solid partnership of 61 runs in the first seven overs. Both the openers were looking strong until Sandeep Lamichhane broke the deadlock for Tridents as he sent back Hemraj (20) back to the pavilion. Chandrapaul's departure saw Hetmyer enter the crease but the West Indian was picked up by Duminy for just two runs. The quick fall of wickets from the other end did not bother Brandon King's momentum, as he was looking firm on the other end.

Rains stopped the play in the 10th over and Amazon Warriors were 16 runs ahead by the DLS par score. When the play resumed after an hour, the revised required score was 97 runs from 20 balls. King managed to get his half-century in the one over bowled before the rain returned and the match was awarded in the favour of Guyana Amazon Warriors
