Cricket news: Dale Steyn praises Steve Smith and David Warner
South African Dale Steyn joined Melbourne Stars for the upcoming Big Bash. He appreciated David Warner and Steve Smith on their return to international cricket.
South African legend Dale Steyn may not be a part of the team's ongoing tour to India, but has a lot to be happy about as he will feature for the Melbourne Stars in the upcoming season of the Big Bash League in Australia. The fifth most successful fast bowler in Test history will be playing six matches for his new team in the ninth edition of Australia’s premier domestic T20 competition. The 2019-20 edition will begin from December 17, 2019 and conclude on February 8, 2020. However, Steyn is not the only South African player to be playing in the tournament. His former colleague and star batsman AB de Villiers will turn up for Brisbane Heat this season and all-rounder Chris Morris will also be playing for Sydney Thunder.

After signing with the Melbourne Stars, Steyn heaped praise on Australian cricketers Steve Smith and David Warner in an interview. The two Australians recently made a return to international cricket after serving their respective bans due to their involvement in last year’s ball-tampering controversy in South Africa. Speaking about Warner in an interview with a leading media portal, the South African paceman paid tribute to him by saying that that the left-handed opening batsman is one of the best batters he has ever bowled to. It bears noting that Steyn and Warner have played alongside each other in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Warner recently had a forgettable Ashes outing, scoring runs at a meager average of 9.5 against Broad and company and being dismissed by Broad on seven occasions. However, Steyn has backed the left-hander by saying that he will get back in form when he’ll start playing in front of the Australian crowds in the upcoming series against Pakistan.
Steyn on Steve Smith
When asked about Steve Smith, Steyn hailed the former Australian skipper for his impeccable consistency in the longest format of the game. In his first Test series after his return, Smith hammered the English bowling attack to all corners on his way to 774 runs across four Ashes Tests. The South African appreciated the right-hander's batting technique, saying that he is on a league of his own right now and is difficult to dismiss due to his shuffling around the crease creating many shot-making options for him. Steyn has gotten Smith out only once in his career but that one dismissal was Smith’s only golden duck in Tests so far.
