'Don't overburden and overuse him': Ex-cricketer cautions BCCI regarding Jasprit Bumrah

After a long injury layoff, Jasprit Bumrah is back in the Indian squad and has resumed celebrating in the usual manner. The right-armer made a resounding return in the first T20 game against Ireland, picking up two wickets in the first over he bowled after almost a year. It is this impact that seemingly makes Bumrah indispensable and that's why he got the spot straightaway after being declared fit. Noticing the vital role that Bumrah can play in the upcoming tournaments, an ex-cricketer has advised Team India's management to keep a tap on the workload of Bumrah.

Kiran More sees Jasprit Bumrah as captaincy material

The cricket world is awake to Jasprit Bumrah's return to the blue outfit. The fast bowler made a blistering comeback on Friday, as the leader of the squad. As the captain of the team, he registered his first win and according to former Indian wicketkeeper, Kiran More, Bumrah has the potential to lead India in all three formats of the game.

"He has to be given the captaincy. He is a good thinker of the game. He is a potential future captain in Test cricket, across all formats as well. I have always believed fast bowlers make good captains," Kiran More told JioCinema after India's 2-run win via DLS.

"It depends on his fitness. For a fast bowler to lead, we saw that with Pat Cummins in the Ashes. I think for you to bowl, play all formats and then lead, it can sometimes be a bit taxing, which is why we see batters taking over the mantle. Like they say, batting is an easier job.

Abhishek Nayar urges Team Management to use Jasprit Bumrah diligently

Former KKR batsman Abhishek Nayar also expressed his views on Bumrah and paid heed to the injury concern and shared his observation regarding where the plight began for the bowler. He also urged the decision-makers to use Bumrah diligently. 

"If we look at the Birmingham Test (in 2022), he bowled very long spells. I think in that (match), the number of overs that he bowled was the inception of his back going for a toss because as a bowler, you constantly want to win games. So you tend to push yourself a bit more. You can't have Jasprit Bumrah get injured in the process of doing that. For T20Is, makes sense. For longer formats it makes sense but I would just say 'save him and keep him for important tournaments' and make sure we don't overburden him and overuse him. Let him enjoy his game because captaincy doesn't let you enjoy your game," he added.

Bumrah's ability to strike from the outset and singlehandedly change the course of the game is the aspect that Team India has been missing for a long time, however, upon his return the team gets a major boost, and come the world cup the entire country's hopes will be riding high on him to deliver.
