While batting and bowling are the premier facets of cricket, the one aspect that is adjoined with these two is partnership. As bowlers hunt in pairs and batters score in pairs as well, there is often a need for compatibility to match in a team. From James Anderson and Stuart Broad to Hayden-Gilchrist, every team has carried a dependable pair in its squad. For India, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli come as the best set in the prevalent ranks. However, when it comes to the overall greatest, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly may supersede every other pair in Team India, and arguably in the world as well. The probability of once-in-a-generation talents forming a nexus is a rare happening, but according to a former India player, Robin Uthappa, a pair has emerged who can create as much impact as Ganguly and Tendulkar.

3 things you need to know

  • India defeated West Indies by 9 wickets in the 4th T20 of the series
  • For India, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal put up a magnificent 165-run stand for the first wicket
  • The series now hangs in balance with the scoreline of 2-2

Robin Uthappa names the pair who could be India's next Ganguly-Tendulkar

In an interview with Jio Cinema, former India batsman, Robin Uthappa stated that the new-formed pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill could go as big as Tendulkar and Ganguly. The left-hand-right-hand combination has been tested in the ongoing India vs West Indies T20 series, and in the 4th T20, the Gill and Jaiswal pair amassed a huge 165-run stand for the opening wicket. Courtesy of the partnership, India attained a 9-wicket win and thereby levelled the series with the hosts.

"Everyone who plays for India are equally capable and have equal ability but the way Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill bat in tandem; they can bat for each other as well and they need to find that space. If they do, they are going to be a very dangerous pair for India in years to come. It will be a hot pair and they can be something as great as a Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly opening the batting," Robin Uthappa said on Jio Cinema after the match.

He further added, "They need to figure a few things out and if they do, they will do great things for India."

India vs West Indies: One for the Future

Ahead of the start of the tour, it was touted that India vs. West Indies series is an ideal one for the fresh faces to showcase their mettle. As it happened, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma have progressed as the names India could bank upon in the future. Jaiswal scored the most runs in the Test series, whereas Varma has been consistent in the T20 series. If the two continue to exhibit similar performance, then soon a call-up for the ICC tournament can become a reality for the two.
