The chairman of the BCCI's selection committee MSK Prasad on Friday called out former Indian wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer for deriving 'sadistic pleasure out of indulging in petty talk'. The 82-year-old commented on Thursday that the Indian cricket selectors served tea to skipper Virat Kohli's wife and Bollywood actor Anushka during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England. In a startling outburst, Farokh questioned the selectors' credentials to deserve a place in the committee.

Speaking to a leading Indian media daily, the 46-Test veteran Farokh questioned the credentials of India's five-member selection panel which is led by MSK Prasad and consists of Sarandeep Singh, Jatin Paranjpe, Gagan Khoda, and Devang Gandhi.

I feel sad for someone deriving sadistic pleasure out of indulging in petty talk: MSK Prasad

"I feel sad for someone deriving sadistic pleasure out of indulging in petty talk, thereby demeaning and disrespecting the selectors and wife of Indian captain through false and frivolous allegations," an angry Prasad told PTI on Thursday.

Farokh had claimed that he had seen one of these five men serve tea to Anushka Sharma during the World Cup in England but didn't name anyone.

"Let's not forget that this selection committee has been appointed by BCCI through a proper process in an AGM," Prasad added. and suggested that it was time Engineer behaved appropriately as per his age as it is not expected from someone of his stature to pass such nasty comments about anyone's wife, be it Indian captain or any ordinary man. "Someone at the age of 82 should reflect maturity and enjoy the progress of Indian cricket from his time to the current day," said Prasad.

Earlier in the day, Anushka had also condemned Engineer’s claims. The actress asked others not to drag her name while criticising others. Anushka also took a shot at fans who have constantly targeted her on social media. She has been targeted by many since she started dating the Indian skipper and it continues till date, even after their marriage.
