Former Indian batsmen names his 15 members for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023
Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has presented his preferred 15-member Team India roster for the forthcoming World Cup in 2023. In particular, he fielded veteran leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. In an unanticipated move, Shreyas Iyer, a batter, was not one of the 15 players chosen in Srikkanth's selection. Iyer lost out to Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, who were given the opportunity.
Kris Srikkanth, who served as chief selector when India won the World Cup on home soil in 2011, gave an intriguing starting lineup for the forthcoming ICC competition during a video segment on Star Sports. In particular, Shreyas Iyer's removal is puzzling given his stellar batting average of 46.60 from 42 One Day Internationals (ODIs). Suryakumar Yadav, in comparison, has a 24.33 average after taking part in 26 one-day matches.
Kris Srikkanth’s preferred squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Suryakumar Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur
Kris Srikkanth is critical of KL Rahul’s selection for Asia Cup 2023
Prior to this, Kris Srikkanth had voiced his displeasure over the Indian selectors' choice to put Rahul in the Asia Cup roster despite his slight injury. Srikkanth expressed his opinion during a discussion on YouTube that a player shouldn't be selected for the squad if he is not physically fit at the time of selection.
It's being said that KL Rahul has a niggle. If you have a niggle, don't pick him in the squad. If a player is not fit during selection, you shouldn't pick him. That was our policy. On the day of selection, if a player is not fit, don't select him. If you want to pick him for the World Cup, select him for the World Cup. That's a different issue.
Team India has picked up KL Rahul in the squad for the Asia Cup, despite the high chances that he might not play in the initial matches due to a thigh injury he faced during the Indian Premier League 2023.
