Former South African skipper Gary Kirsten is one of the top candidates to take over the coaching role of England cricket team. After the disappointing Ashes campaign by the home team, Australian Trevor Bayliss stepped down as head coach after his four-year stint with the side. Bayliss was appointed as England’s coach in 2015 and under his tenure, the English team won the 2015 Ashes and also reached the number one position in ICC ODI team rankings. However, their biggest achievement under his coaching stint came when England won their first-ever ICC Cricket World Cup, just months before Trevor stepped down from the role.

Gary Kirsten’s track record as a coach
Gary Kirsten is not new to coaching. The 101-Test veteran previously coached team India and was a key member of the Indian team management during their 2011 World Cup victory. His partnership with skipper MS Dhoni was heavily praised as they formed one of the best captain-coach duos in Indian cricket history. After his coaching stint with the ‘Men in Blue’, Gary took up the head coach job for his home country South Africa. He also joined IPL-franchise RCB for the top coaching job in 2018. As one of the front-runners to become England’s coach, the South African legend will be looking to emulate his previous success with the 2019 World Cup winners as well.
