Young Team India batter Tilak Varma displayed an impressive performance on his T20I debut and played an innings of 39 runs off 22 balls against Windies.
Tilak Varma impressed in his debut match against West Indies and played a knock of 39 runs off 22 balls in a losing cause for Team India. Tilak earned a place in the Indian team on the basis of his excellent performance in the Indian Premier League. Varma hit 343 runs from 14 IPL 2023 games for the Mumbai Indians at an average and strike rate of 42.88 and 164.11 respectively.

Tilak Varma gets a heartfelt message from Dewald Brevis after his T20I debut
After impressing the Indian cricket team fans with a cameo knock on his T20I debut, Tilak Varma also received a heartfelt message from his Mumbai Indians teammate Dewald Brevis. In a video shared by BCCI on their official Instagram handle, Brevis and Varma were seen talking on a video call. The young South African said in the video:
Hey brother, I hope you are very excited. I don’t know If I am more excited than you, but I just want to say from my side and from the Brevis family, congratulations on your debut. It’s such a great moment for you and your family. I can just imagine how happy your parents and everyone must be. It’s great to see you out there, living your dream out.

Dewald Brevis praise Tilak Varma's sixes against Alzarri Joseph
The young South African batter also praised Tilak Varma for his fantastic arrival on the international stage. Tilak got off the mark by hitting two back-to-back sixes towards deep square leg to Windies bowler Alzarri Joseph. Brevis said:
Those shots on the second and third ball gave me goosebumps. You always have my support and all the best for rest of the series. I’m backing you fully and go win every game for Team India. Cheers brother!.
The Indian cricket team ended up losing the first T20I against West Indies by four runs while chasing a total of 150 runs. Big names like Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and Sanju Samson failed to score on the big occasion. The second match of the series will be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on August 6, 2023.
