Graeme Smith withdraws his interest for the CSA Director of Cricket role
Graeme Smith has withdrawn his interest for the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Director of Cricket role. The former skipper has confirmed the same on social media.
Graeme Smith has been arguably the best player to lead South Africa and under his reign, the Proteas became one of the best as well as a tough side to beat as well. Back in 2003, Smith became South Africa's youngest-ever captain when he was appointed for that role at the age of 22 years. Under his reign, the 'Rainbow Nation' reached the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2006, ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and ICC World T20 2009 respectively. Recently, the former South African skipper had expressed his desire for the role of CSA (Cricket South Africa) Director of Cricket but now, he has come up with a message regarding that particular role.
Smith withdraws his interest
Taking to the micro-blogging site, Graeme Smith wrote that following the news in the media this week that he had interviewed for the CSA Director of Cricket role, he felt it necessary to confirm that he has unfortunately withdrawn his interest for the role. Smith also mentioned that he would have loved to take up the role then revealed what made him back out. He wrote that he has not developed the necessary confidence that he would be given the level of freedom and support to initiate the required changes. The ex-captain also added that his passion for the nation's cricketing fortunes remains steadfast before expressing his heartfelt best wishes to whomsoever taking up the role. Graeme Smith's cricketing career
In his 12-year illustrious cricketing career, Graeme Smith has represented South Africa in 117 Tests, 197 One Day Internationals and 33 T20Is . After South Africa's quarterfinal ouster from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, Smith resigned as the limited-overs captain and was succeeded by AB de Villiers. He continued to play till 2014 before calling it a day.
