Sehwag reveals a shocking incident involving John Wright
Virender Sehwag has recently revealed a shocking incident from a bilateral series in 2004, where he had a heated altercation with then-India head coach John Wright. During a match against England, Sehwag got dismissed playing a rash shot, which left Wright infuriated. The coach lost his cool and engaged in an ugly confrontation with Sehwag.
Sehwag disclosed that after his dismissal, when he entered the dressing room, Wright held him by his collar and pushed him around during India's 2004 England tour. The Indian batsman was understandably upset and immediately reported the incident to Rajiv Shukla, the team manager at the time. The matter was eventually resolved when Shukla and Amrit Mathur, the then BCCI General Manager, intervened and facilitated a patch-up between Sehwag and Wright.
“I was pushed around by John Wright (ex-head coach of team India) in 2004 England tour. He pulled me by my collar after I got out cheaply. I was very angry and said to (the then manager) Rajiv Shukla, How can a gora hit me. Later Amrit Mathur and Rajiv Shukla got me and Wright to patch up,” Sehwag said during the launch of Amrit Mathur’s book – ‘Pitchside: My life in Indian cricket’.
