'He will be the best': Chaminda Vaas names India's future Test captain after Rohit Sharma

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma ended his drought of hundreds in Tests and scored his tenth century in the longer format in the first Test match against the Windies of the two-match series. Apart from scoring a century, Rohit was the second-highest run scorer of the series and scored a total of 240 runs from three innings. The Indian team also started its campaign in the new cycle of the WTC 2023-25 with a win.

Chaminda Vaas opens up on Rohit Sharma's replacement in Test cricket

Former Sri Lanka fast bowler in an exclusive chat with the Republic World opened up on Rohit Sharma's replacement in Test cricket. According to Vaas, Shreyas Iyer is the best replacement for Rohit as he has good leadership skills. The former left-arm Sri Lankan pacer said: 

Shreyas Iyer will be the best captain. In his first Test, he scored a hundred and he has good leadership skills. The way I see it, he can handle the team. He will be the best option going forward.

Shreyas Iyer is currently out of the Indian cricket team and played his last Test match against Australia in March 2023. He didn't come out to bat in the fourth Test of the BGT 2023 series due sustained a back injury and is going through his recovery period at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The right-handed Indian batter scored a hundred in his first Test match against New Zealand in 2021 and has also led Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Rohit Sharma and Co. aim for another series win against Men in Maroon 

After defeating the Windies in the two-match Test series, Rohit Sharma and Co. will play its first international ODI series after the announcement of the schedule of the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. The major cricket event will begin from October 5, 2023, Team India will begin its campaign against Australia on October 8, 2023.
