3 things you need to know
- India will face Australia in a 3 match ODI series
- India recently lifted their 8th Asia Cup title
- Team India will open their campaign with a match against Australia
Ravichandran Ashwin has been included in the Indian squad for the Australian series
Team India announced a 15 member squad for the Australian series and veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was a surprise inclusion in the squad. The Rajasthan Royals spinner hasn't played a single match since the South Africa tour last year and is likely to play a key role in the upcoming series.
Ashwin who has been a key part in India's Test squad will also be in the scheme of things for the World Cup, captain Rohit Sharma already reiterated a few days ago. “As a spinner-all-rounder, Ashwin is in the line, I have been talking to him on the phone. The injury happened to Axar at the last minute and Washington was available, so he had to come and perform the role for us. He was cricket-fit because he was part of the Asian Games camp (in Bengaluru). I have been very clear with players about their roles. Everyone is in the loop."
Former chief selector MSK Prasad makes a massive admission on Ravichandran Ashwin
Now former Chief selector MSK Prasad echoed his views as he feels the former CSK spinner will be a great asset for Team India. In an interaction with Star Sports, he said, “This is a very good news. I have been saying this for a while that Ashwin will be very useful for India, that too in Indian conditions. He has taken close to 500 wickets in India across formats.”
“Every team has 3-4 left-handers and he will prove deadly against the left-handers. I hope that he performs well against Australia and get selected in India’s World Cup squad."
