Here's Iceland Cricket's take on Ben Stokes deflection of the bat being compared with Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God'

England overcame New Zealand in an edge-of-the-seat thriller to lift their maiden World Cup at Lord's on Sunday. The hosts got fourth time lucky after they had failed in their previous three finals in 1979, 1987 and 1992 respectively. The outcome of the finale was decided on Super Over after both teams were tied at 242 after 100 overs of cricket. Even the Super Over was tied after both teams finished at the score of 15 but, England emerged as the winners owing to the boundary count, with the hosts having scored 24 boundaries in their innings against New Zealand's 17.

Nonetheless, it was Ben Stokes' superb 95-ball 84 which helped the hosts in doing the unthinkable after they were reeling at 86/4. However, Stokes was also involved in a bizarre incident while he was anchoring the innings.

It happened in the final over of the second innings which was bowled by Trent Boult and a well-set Ben Stokes was on strike.  The all-rounder had mistimed a full toss from Boult towards mid-wicket and ran for two. Martin Guptill covered the ground and threw it towards the wicket-keeper as Stokes put in a dive. However, as he put in a dive to save his wicket, the ball deflected from his bat and went towards the third man fence for four. Hence, England got six runs in one ball as their equation which had read 9 runs from 3 balls came down to 3 runs in 2 balls.

This infamous incident became a subject of heated discussion as well. However, Iceland Cricket decided to have some fun as they compared Stokes' deflection with football legend Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' on social media. At the same time also adding that equating Stokes with Maradona was harsh.

 In case if you are wondering what it was all about, then this is an incident which had happened during Argentina's dream run in the 1986 World Cup. Maradona had scored a goal of his fist during their quarterfinal win against England.
